TRM will no longer accept bookings from OTA’s (On line travel agents like booking-dot-com) if they include dogs. If you have a dog then please have the courtesy to let us know directly to provide details of the nature of the dog. i.e. Half-bred mongrel pig dogs or vicious dogs are not considered as pets and will be refused.

Too many new guests have been using OTA’s to book and pay ahead to then sneak in unacceptable dogs. Out of fairness to other inmates, we need to know if they have dogs for obvious reasons. Certain units have been designated as “pet-friendly” but OTAs do not know or care which units are booked, as long as they get a commission. Then we have difficulty shifting them to a suitable dog-friendly unit.

WIth the busier summer months approaching SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed is the Manager at TRM) anticipates an increase in doggy guests. That is fine as long as we know beforehand. Many fishos have pet dogs and they are usually acceptable. Savage scruffy guard dogs are not! Dogs that unnecessarily bark at other guests are not welcome. OK?

TRM is a wonderful location, almost designed for exercising pet dogs, with a very scenic, mainly level river-side trail nearby, which usually becomes provides kennel club atmosphere most evenings. In total there are about 20 km of formed tracks all within easy distance from TRM.

In one large one bedroom unit that sleeps up to four, a regular inmate has installed a dog fence to provide his lab with an outdoor exercise area with covered roof over the carport (Thanks Nick). The unit is located away from other units to minimise the risk of disturbance from other traffic and to discourage the dogs from barking.

If you are allergic or nervous about pet dogs please note TRM has a dog as well, but she – Juno – is usually chained up or kept inside an enclosure. She is well known as many inmates take her for “walkies”, or she takes them, along the Tongariro River Trail. She is not traffic-trained and needs to be on a lead along Taupahi Road.
