The Tongariro National Trout Centre is a great place for kids.
Feed the trout in our Children’s Fishing Pond, check them out in our underwater viewing chamber and learn about the Taupo fishery and the Tongariro River.

On special days of the year we open our pond for ‘Public Kids Fishing Days’. These days always book out so contact us today to make your family booking.

Please call us to discuss if we can help with ‘Private Kids Family Fishing Experience’ or other special events.

Your own Private Kids Family Fishing Experience $175 (incl GST)

Up to 5 kids (under 14 years) fish and catch a Trout in our fishing pond.

This package includes:

• Up to five kids fish (additional children $15 per child)
• Family entry into Visitor Centre, Aquarium and Hatchery
• Souvenir Fishing Licence
• Certificate recording your catch
• We provide all fishing gear and staff to assist
• And yes ….  YOU GET TO TAKE YOUR TROUT HOME

What you need to know

• Bookings are essential and subject to availabilty (we ask for min of 48hrs advance notice)
• Our team will help children with fishing where necessary
• We are sorry, this fishing is for the kids only. No Adults. Your job is to take the photos, support the young fishers and enjoy.

To book for one of our Children’s Fishouts, please contact us on (07) 386 8085 between 10:00am and 3:00pm (1 May to 30 November) and between 10:00am and 4:00pm (1 December to 30 April).

What you need to know …

Age Limit
Children aged 6-14 years (inclusive) can fish the pond with the help of Volunteer Anglers.

Costings
$10 per child.
This includes

• A special Trout Centre Souvenir Child’s Licence
• Certificate recording your catch
• On the above dates we do our best to ‘Fillet and Smoke’ your catch.
  (this option is not normally available for other group bookings.. Please call us to discuss your group requirements)
• We provide all fishing equipment with help from our volunteers
• and of course.. you get to take your catch home
