Image above of Arne Buchmann from Auckland delivering more fishing gear to encourage kids fishing.
This is in response to the initiative of Didymo Dave (image on right impersonating another world leader?) and Doug Stevens (image below from NZFishing.com) looking for surplus fly fishing equipment for local kids.
Most anglers have some old obsolete fishing gear stored away in a corner which is surplus to their requirements as they update their arsenal.
These otherwise unused surplus items would be valued by local kids wanting to start their trout fishing careers.
Some of these kids are keen to learn but hampered by lack of instruction and gear.
Some have already completed their initial training, assisting Dave in cleaning up weeds and removing rubbish and draining access roads – see image above – all sorts of conservation tasks that are beyond ordinary mortals. Now they can be rewarded for their efforts as well.
So they will be absolutely delighted with the generous response from anglers to help to introduce and encourage the next generation into trout fishing around the Taupo rivers.
Also at TRM we get so many younger novice inmates who would love to try fly fishing but were hampered by the lack of equipment – now we have rods, reels, waders, landing nets, flies, etc. (even lucky hats!) to be able to point them in the direction of the river to try their luck.
It is our angling version of “Give-a-little”. Many thanks to all contributors.
