On Juno’s doggie exercise walkies to the library this morning, I came across two suspicious characters at the Saturday Morning market, wearing distinctive fishing hats.  New trout fishing hats are always interesting in Turangi – Trout Fishing Capital of the World.

The good looking angler on right was proudly sporting his TRM lucky hat, but it was the other mysterious hat that attracted more attention…

This is mentioned as the TRM lucky hats are now a collector’s item.  With TRM motel going through the selling process, another box had not been ordered for this summer season to keep stocks low, so supplies quickly ran out.

Then, as expected, the new Lake O opening with bright summer sun immediately drove demand for fishing hats with style that we couldn’t meet.

Then just as quickly, as TRM supplies were exhausted, another interesting fishing hat from an exciting new trout fishing club appeared.  That is the one modelled on the left.  Could this be an historic moment in Turangi’s history?

In case you cannot read the inscription, it is part of the new Kutai Street Fly Fishing Club uniform.  We tried to inquire for more information about this club, but the answers were deliberately confusing.  I suspect their club is more about socialising and reporting the one that got away, which increased our suspicions that they might all be from the dark side – almost certainly wet liners who dredge the Hydro Pool.  How can weighted woolly buggers even qualify as “fly” fishing?
