Tongariro River fishing report update

This morning Juno took me walkies around the loop of the Tongariro River Trail about 11 am, prime time on the Tongariro River. The most popular pools – Lower Bridge Pool, Major Jones Pool and Breakfast Pool were all abandoned. The only anglers seen were four wading deep in Judge Pool TRB.

The photos show how hard it was in bright sunshine, no wind, mild temperatures, and the river had plenty of pumice-type colour to hide them.

This was interesting as we had read reports from others about how slow (?) the fishing is at the moment. But it depends who you ask. TRM fishos were not complaining at all.

An anon inmate from West Island left last week. He had about a week fishing here with some mates, then headed up to Rotorua and then returned by himself for the last week. Previously, he and they appeared happy with their results. SWMBO can usually tell as they were never here. I hardly noticed him at all. But as he was leaving he checked in his unit key and we finally found the opportunity to grill him… So?

On his best morning session he reluctantly admitted he landed 14 (that is fourteen). His slowest day yielded only four. So where? Sorry, we are sworn to keep his spot secure and cannot reveal that as he is returning… Just thought you should know…
