Following the reply from TRM’s blog last week repeating the same New Year wish-list for many years, we asked this correspondent if we could feature his reply. He answered:
“Yep, sure use my comments as that’s my opinion and I hope it does some good. Turangi has some serious issues but getting away from Taupo is the start of fixing some of them. Ruapehu has more in common with Turangi and smaller. One would think decisions would be quicker and more transparent.”
We had asked to post his original emailed response as an example of similar sentiments from so many other inmates who concurred with TRM’s “Wish List” – that it deserves his own special New Year blog.
His original emailed letter follows:
“Greetings of the season!
I don’t live in Turangi anymore but enjoy reading your web page and keeping up with things. Your top 6 wish list for the new year is spot on. I moved away from Turangi because it never changed, only got older and more run down. A major cause of this seemed to be a lack of leadership from DOC, Taupo Council, and so on.
Plus a lot of the old timers from “Project” days were passing away and moving so Taupo lost its base of “volunteers” for free work and services they[council] should provide. So to see a coherent list of potential projects for Turangi is stimulating in its own right.
This may seem radical but I think Turangi’s way forward is to break away from Taupo council and get their own local governance as it is NOT Taupo. That council will continue using Turangi as a cash cow and only throw Turangi a “bone” every so often.
Thanks again for info and EFFORT!
Happy New Year,“
WOW! Below is the resolutions from TRM’s post last week…
Thank you to so many for making 2023 so successful in every way.
Now we look forward to making 2024 even more successful. TRM inmates already know all our usual New Year’s wish-list resolutions – they have been much the same for the last 19 years…i.e.
1 Open North Island’s only underground power station for tourists.
2 Re-open the Turangi Museum for tourists.
3 Improve angler access on the Tongariro River.
4 Develop bike trails up the Tongariro River to link with the Poutu Dam and Tree Trunk Gorge trails.
5 Award Didymo Dave with a knighthood…
6 Start development of the T2T – Taupo to Turangi Bike trail.
This TRM wish list has been the same for many years. Judging by the results, TRM may appear to have been overly optimistic as it remains the same years later, but we prefer to aim high. We could go on and on but are confident the above wish list will be achieved one day…
