Starting on Sunday 11 February we will be undertaking night works on 2 Rehabilitation sites and 1 Drainage site along the Desert Road.

Work will begin on 6pm Sunday 11 February 2024 and will take approximately four weeks to complete (weather permitting). 

Between 6pm and 6am, on Sunday to Thursday nights, SH1 will be closed between Waiouru and Rangipo. There will be a detour in place: from SH1 via SH46, SH47, SH4 and SH49, back to SH1 and vice versa. This detour is expected to take approximately 1hr 15 mins.

Outside these hours (including all day on Friday and Saturday) both lanes will be open with temporary reduced speed limits.

Road closure and detour will be in place, 6pm-6am Sunday-Thursday.
