Monday 11 February

A bit of a "no news" day.

Rode up to the Red Hut and did not see a single angler.  None!  The most trout I counted in one pool – without polaroids – was about thirteen.

A bit gusty and threatening rain but that is no excuse.  Where are all the anglers?  Surely work can’t be that important.

TRM have six units occupied by anglers at the moment but they are all boaties.

Thought you might enjoy their number plates…

Perhaps the trout go off the bite when storm clouds are gathering?  Or perhaps they come on the bite…

Local Tongariro River guide, Andrew Christmas, called in this morning with his limit bag.  That is him trying to smile.  He had landed nine out of this one pool and they were all like those in the photo.  We did not see that sort of consistent condition in the middle of the 2007 spawning runs.

I needed the photo for updating the "Pool Reports" as that pool has been an absolute winner since last winter.

Which pool?  Sorry – in fairness to Andrew you will have to read the pool reports…. or stay at TRM…
